Student app rescue
Our client runs a residential summer education programme, and is the first of its kind to have its own app. The app that is in daily use throughout camp and is important for keeping students safe. It holds a lot of personal information, from timetables and medical notes to emergency contacts, dietary requirements, risk assessments and registers, and the whole design is about who can see what. Students see only their own details, staff see only what their role needs, and sensitive information is on hand for the people responsible without it being exposed to everyone else.
The developer who built it wanted to move on, and with camp approaching the programme needed someone to take it on quickly and reliably ready for students arrival. It came to us on a personal recommendation, and we had the relevant experience to take it on with confidence.
We audited the codebase, took it on and learned it fast, then got it running in time for camp with enough time and budget to start on their wish list. We added new features and kept it stable and secure through camp, and made sure it stayed in line with Google Play Store and App Store requirements. With this year's camp complete, we are now focused on making it better for next year.
Outcome
- The right people see the right data, and no more
- Students see only their own information
- Sensitive data shared only where it is needed
- Kept stable and compliant for the app stores
- Praised at inspection
